written by Anthony Dodge
directed by Marcia Milgrom Dodge
co-produced by Karl Held and Craig Haffner

Done in the snappy-patter style of the great mystery writer, Raymond Chandler, Venus Flytrap explores the world of Film Noir, a genre usually reserved for male-dominated stories and male-dominated heroes. While all the able-bodied boys were called to war, women had to do the work on the home front; it’s a tough job but somebody has to do it. So, our heroine, Butch Diamond, turns to the detective biz. Amidst the background of New York during World War Two, Butch is hired by a young soldier searching for his missing twin exposing a myriad of lies and secrets among the disenfranchised and 4-F’s who’ve stayed back from the front. A wild, post-modernist look at sexual politics through closed doors. And closets.

THE CRITICS

"This play is proof positive that the extended 'comic bit' is still extant, and that there are young actors who can do them with the skill of the old-timers of stage, screen, and vaudeville. Wait until you see it, and you will witness comic hilarity at its finest. This play is a "mystery" - but there is no mystery to the fact that you will be laughing your head off at Venus Flytrap."
