To all who have supported us or shared the stage with us over the years,
As 2013 comes to a close and we all prepare to embark on an exciting new year filled with great possibility, I want to thank you for your dedicated commitment to The Active Theater throughout its history. It is because of the support from our friends that we were able to take a germ of an idea in 2007 and turn it into what I feel has been a hot bed of creation -- producing re-examinations of established pieces and shaping and premiering new works in the theater community’s capital.
Therefore, it is with bittersweet sentiment that I let you know, effective immediately, Active will close metaphorical doors, as the volunteer creatives behind it prepare to tackle thrilling new professional opportunities.
When we began Active as a troupe of actors looking for a home, I never dared wish that, only a handful of years later, we would be a New York Times Critics Pick (Two Point Oh this fall at 59E59); have built bridges with such an esteemed group of collaborators; and assisted emerging playwrights with one of the most comprehensive play development programs in the city. Our mark on the landscape may have been small, but our impact was deep in large part to the consistent integrity of work delivered by our collaborators.
As an artist, I am deeply thankful and humbled by this unparalleled, invaluable experience, and I hope that we have created a family bound together by mutual support as we all pave the path toward future endeavors. I look forward to staying in touch.
With all best wishes for a happy and healthy 2014 (and beyond),
Nathaniel Shaw
